About Your Host & the Podcast
Welcome to the very first episode of the Cheerful Productive Chats Podcast! In case we haven’t met before, hey, hey! I’m Lucy Reyes, your host, a Productivity Strategist, and the momprenuer who started a little blog as a side hustle while working in Corporate America.
But whoa. Let me tell you. I had no idea what I was getting into when I first started. I came across pins that said “start a blog” and “making money online is easy”. So I thought, okay, cool. Yeah, let’s do this. How hard can it be?
Can you relate to that? And little by little, I realized that was not the case. And I had just added about a dozen more job titles to my name. But little that I know that I would absolutely fall in love with the online world. Quit my job during the pandemic and go all in on my online business.
However, I’m not going to lie to you. I also tried doing all the things only to realize that doing everything with actually hurting my biz. And that’s why I’m here now, because while there are many strategies that I personally love that will help you grow your biz.
I’ve realized that there’s a big, fundamental gap, or a fundamental puzzle piece if you will, missing. And that’s the importance of being productive.
And don’t get me wrong. It’s mentioned here and there, but it’s just not enough, not enough to where it takes priority over everything else because you know, everything else just seems more important.
And while a lot of what you’re currently doing for your online business now is definitely important. So is mastering the skill of productivity.
Thankfully, this skill is also something that will not only help you with your business, but this skill translates over to helping you in your day to day, too. Not to mention that productivity actually truly does impact your profitability, but we’ll get to that in another episode.
And for me personally, time management is a skill that I was forced to master back in my early twenties when I first became a mom. But that’s a story for another day. Now I work from home with my two little cuties. Well, my son is like a pre pre-teen aka he’s nine years old.
And my daughter is about to turn one. Yeah, huge age gap and it definitely keeps me busy. Which is why I also value my time so, so much and I know that you do too.
So today I want to welcome you to my very first episode and let you know what’s to come and how this podcast is going to help you boost your productivity and grow your biz quicker as a result.
In this podcast, you can expect me to answer the question I get asked often, which is how do you do at all? And spoiler alert. You may have realized that I already mentioned it earlier. But I actually don’t. I don’t do it all. And I don’t want you to feel like you have to do it all.
Because the truth is when you focus on the right things, you can achieve way more in less time and that’s what I’m all about.
The Truth of Being Busy vs Productive
In case you didn’t know, there’s a real difference between being busy and being productive, just because you’re busy doesn’t mean that you’re also being productive.
And society seems to have placed a badge of honor on anyone who appears to be busy and this could be for several different reasons.
Like maybe it makes you look cool to have a lot on your plate or just shows that you’re working hard and that you have a lot to do, right. Especially in the workplace. It’s like oh no, I’m very busy. I have a lot on my plate. I have a whole list of things to do. You never want someone to look at you and think that whoa, she has a lot of downtime, right?
So you’re always constantly just going to, I’m busy, I’m busy, I’m busy. But being busy isn’t necessarily a bad thing – it doesn’t mean that you’re being productive.
And think about it. Let’s say that you have a checklist, a to-do list of 10 things and you completed seven of those things. Like at a glance that may look like, whoa, like you got a lot done. You’re pretty productive today. Woo-hoo.
And in reality, what if the three things that you didn’t get done were actually the most important? Now all of a sudden, it doesn’t seem like a productive day after all right?
Cause what if those seven things that you crossed off? Where things that were not important were things that shouldn’t have been prioritized were things that could have been pushed to another day.
That is what being productive actually means.
It means that you’re focusing on the right things by defining which task should be prioritized, which ones are important. And not doing it all. Okay, you do not have to do it all.

Dealing With Distractions
Another thing that really helps with your productivity is to learn how to deal with your distractions or ways around them.
So recently I read something that said you should eliminate all of your distractions in order to be productive. And while that is most definitely the ideal situation, and like the best case scenario. I’m also a realist that knows that life happens.
I mean, I have two kids at home. One is a baby that needs me around the clock. And my son is in soccer practice and is always asking what’s for dinner when he’s just waking up in the mornings.
Life happens and regardless of whether you are a mom or not, you still have other priorities and you will always have some sort of distractions. So if we’re being realistic, eliminating them is not always going to be possible.
So instead of trying to focus on trying to eliminate all of these distractions, let’s try to find ways to deal with them or to minimize them along with finding ways around them. Okay. So all of that together can help you be more productive.
Time Management is a Learned Skill
And if you’re thinking right now, Lucy. I have been more busy than productive. This is okay. Like, I want you to know that it’s okay if you’re feeling right now, like, whoa, like, I don’t feel like I’ve been productive at all. It’s okay. We all have those days, we all have those moments.
And if productivity is just something that you’re like. Yep. Nope, not me. I’m never productive. I don’t know how to be productive. Just know that this is something that can be learned and can be improved over time.
There seems to be this misconception that some people are just naturally born with this time management skill. Which is like, the key word in this phrase is skill which means that it’s something that can be learned.
People are not really just born with this or not. Like I said earlier, this is something that I learned back in my twenties. And yes, it has now helped me with all aspects of my life.
But before that. I wasn’t productive. I didn’t have any time management skills. But you can work on it. Okay.
And one of the best ways that I can actually define being productive as an online entrepreneur is for you to execute strategic plans. Well, strategic, detailed and flexible plans are what I like to say that creates real results aka you know, your profits and high impact.
Because that’s what we want. Isn’t it? To do what we love, help and impact others, but make money doing so. So getting productive will help you shift your to-do list tasks and pick the ones that will give you the bigger results and that bigger impact that you want to achieve.
