Two Major Business Decisions
Hey, hey, welcome back to the Cheerful Productive Chats Podcast. These past, like, few days have gone by so fast and not just because it was Thanksgiving and Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
But personally, I ended up making some really big decisions in my business that kind of came on a whim. Like, it wasn’t something that was planned, like, even at the start of my Black Friday sale, which was on Tuesday, Wednesday, depending if you were on the waitlist or not.
Even then, I hadn’t made the decision that I am about to share in this episode. There’s two big decisions that I made, but I am going to focus on one. There’s two that I made in the span of 24 hours. Like I got the idea, and I was like, you know what, I think, I think this is what I’m supposed to do.
Like, this is, this, I think this is my next step. And it’s, and they’re one of those decisions that’s like, it’s not going to be easy. It’s not going to be simple. And so therefore it kind of feels right because it’s like, I’m not just trying to take an easy route. I’m not just trying to do something simple.
It’s actually going to blow up my business. Like that is how I felt the whole time. I felt the entire time like, Oh my gosh, like, am I really going to do this? Am I really going to do this?
Because it really feels like I’m just blowing everything up and I’m rebuilding it again. So It feels right though. It feels right. So I made two big decisions, but I’m only going to share the first one here in today’s episode okay.
My Decision Making Process
But let me start by just kind of telling you what my decision process is because it varies. Like I know we’re supposed to be decision makers in our business, right? Like we are the CEOs and we’re supposed to have, whenever we have ideas, we should make the decisions fast.
Like that is usually what we’re told, right? We need to be fast decision makers. And I could go either way.
Sometimes I dwell on my decisions for a really long time. Sometimes I’ll have an idea and then I’ll either marinate in it for a bit or I’ll bring it over to my OBM and we’ll chat about it.
And then sometimes we’ll put a pin in it indefinitely and then I never actually get back to it. And then those are the ideas that I kind of know weren’t right because I never, I never felt the need to go back to it.
But then there’s other ideas where I do put a pin in it and then I just can’t stop thinking about it. I can’t stop thinking about it and I’m just like, ugh, it doesn’t feel right though. I am very intuition based and the decision, like if it doesn’t feel right, then I’m not doing it.
So there’s some that I dwell on, I put a pin in it, but I still keep coming back to it, and that’s when I know there’s something there. I just haven’t figured out what it is just yet. And then other times, I get an idea and I’m like, Ooh, this feels so right. It feels so good.
And I’m very trustworthy of my gut, my intuition. And usually I feel like those are the ones that actually guide me to a better place or the next best step for me based on where I’m at in that specific moment in time.
And so that’s kind of how I approach decisions and this one that I made was very much a mix of two. So I had these several ideas of what I could do and I put a pin in it. I kept coming back to it. It just didn’t feel right. I didn’t, I didn’t know what I was going to do.
But it was the combination of these two decisions to blow up certain parts in my business, that actually made it work for this other idea that had been lingering in the back of my head. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.
Decision 1: I’m Lowering My Membership Price
So I know you’re probably thinking like, Lucy, I need to know what this decision is. Like you keep talking about decisions, decisions and you haven’t told us what it is.
Well, I have decided that I am going to lower the price, well not going to, I already did. I am lowering the price of the Productive Entrepreneurs Club.
I have had this idea of having a mini membership for a while. I even shared about it last year in my 2022 annual review. I mentioned this is what I wanted to do.
And actually, I did. I kinda did. I brought a two tier type of membership early in the year. It was still part of the Productive Entrepreneurs Club. I had a light and a VIP tier. And little by little, I started phasing that out because it just wasn’t working out. It didn’t feel right. And the majority of the people actually took me up on that higher tier, the VIP plan.
But something just still fell off. And so you know my founding members will attest to this. We’ve tried out so many different things inside of the community and it’s been so much fun. It’s been so engaging to really have them contribute to what the membership has now become and what it is now.
And so this was where I just couldn’t make sense of how to make a mini membership work because let’s be honest, in order to have a $7, $9, $11, $12, whatever mini cost membership be profitable for a business, you need to have a large audience.
That is how it will work, right? Like that’s what it is. So for me, it just, it just couldn’t happen. Like I don’t have a 10K list, 20K list, 50K list, where I can easily sell a bunch of $7 and $9 offers all the time and still be growing my business.
My audience hasn’t reached that level yet. And so I’m still having to find a balance of like, okay, how, how generous can I be while still growing my business?
Because the truth is, if I’m not growing my business, I can’t continue to help the people and spread the message that I want to spread, right? Like I truly want to let everyone know how important it is to be intentional with your time and how it can truly impact you and your business growth.
But times are tough, man. Times are tough right now. I’m telling you, I see it, I feel it, I can, it’s all over the place. Right? And so I just kept coming back to this idea. Like I really want to figure this out. How can I make a mini membership work for me?
And so this has been months, months of ideas, like throwing ideas at the wall, sitting in it, it slipping down and I’m like, okay, that’s not it. Me giving some more ideas to my OBM and we’re like, oh, no, yeah, that’s not gonna work.
So it’s been a lot of that for several months. And then, in the end, I was like, you know what, we’re just gonna cut it out, like, I’m just not gonna do it. Like, I’m not gonna do it. I’m not going to do a mini membership. And then that was my decision for, I don’t know, a few months, like two months maybe.
And then I randomly had this idea during Black Friday week, like it just came to me out of nowhere. Where if I do this decision too that I’m not going to share about because it is too much right now. But I will talk about it in the next episode.
Decision 2 Made This Possible
So if you want to know what that is, just come back next week for that next episode. But because of that decision for decision number two that I hadn’t thought about yet, it was going to make this one possible.
But those two are big pieces of my business right now. So two big pieces of my business are completely like exploding, getting blown up, like getting taken apart and like putting them back together to be what is now going to be what I’m doing with my business.
The Backend Adjustments
And so this was definitely not like an easy route. It’s not a simple decision. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. I am honest. Like, I am wanting to work through this really, really fast because of the timing of everything, because the holidays are approaching, because I have a summit planned for next year that I’m now having to put on hold until I figure this out.
So I’m trying to get through this really fast. And so… There’s a lot of moving pieces with this. Like I’m having to change funnels and checkouts and sales pages and notify my members and adjust their access and all of these things. Like I have a full Trello board with all of the tasks that I’ve been working on for the past few days.
And yes, I’ve been staying up a little bit later than I usually do, but that’s just how it is right now. And so it’s not easy. It’s the complete opposite.
But the fact that it’s hard, let’s be real. It’s hard. It feels so good. Like it feels so right and So that really gives me the confidence to know that it’s the next right move.
My Mission With This Change
And so my mission like my mission, I told this to my members when I let them know about this change.
Obviously, they were the first ones to know what the changes and how it’s going to impact them and how I am making sure that I had them taken care of whether they had joined way before they joined me recently, whether whatever plan they were on, they are all being taken care of. So they were the first to know.
And I share that the reason why I’m doing this is really because I want to get my message out. I want to share my message of how important it is to be intentional with your time.
During tough times like this, whenever the economy is not working in your favor, the first thing we think about is money. Right? We think about money.
But you also have time and you’ve heard the phrase before. Time is money. I know some people don’t like it, but I do because it’s true. It’s kind of true, right? Time is money and I’ve said it before. Overwhelm costs time.
So if you’re constantly overwhelmed, you’re constantly stressed, you’re constantly feeling these negative emotions, you’re being less productive, so you’re getting less of the right things done, which means you’re not going to make as much money. You’re not going to be as profitable.
And so now more than ever, people need to know that it’s so important to get productive and to get organized and to be intentional with your time because you really want to maximize your impact in the little time that you have.
So I needed to get this message out there. I was like I need to do this. I really need to figure out this way to spread a message and so not only does the second decision that I’m sharing about next week, help make this possible. But also I’ve been working on my plan on like, okay How am I going to grow my list?
Like if I need to have a big list in order to make this sustainable, Well, then what am I going to do to grow my list because what I’ve been doing kind of hasn’t been working. At least not the way that I like to.
Because I like to keep my list very, very engaged. I clean it out very often and because of that, the growth kind of stays the same because I’m constantly bringing in new people and I’m filtering out some, some others.
And so I’m trying to figure out like, what am I going to do? What am I willing to commit to, to help me get my name out there, to get this membership out there, to help me grow my audience so that I can keep delivering this type of value at a super low cost to you. And so, that’s what I’m doing. That is what I’m doing.
What My Members Said
I’ve lowered the price of the Productive Entrepreneurs Club to just $7 a month, and I feel amazing about it. I am so excited for it. I am so excited for the opportunity to reach more people because I know that now at this low price point, it’s a total no brainer.
Like it was a no brainer before, it was only $29 a month for everything that you get, but now it’s like Like what am I even doing?
Even my members when I told them they’re like wow like that is so generous. That is so much value for the cost. Oh my goodness. Like this is really going to help spread more of Lucy. Like they were so supportive like they have told me, they my students, They have all told me how good of a teacher I am, how easy I make complex things.
I make it so easy and simple for people to understand and so I need to get that out. I need to get that out and make it easy for you to understand how you can truly get more time back in your days without doing some complex productivity strategies like, I don’t know, eat the frog or something.
Um, I’m not gonna go there. I have a whole nother episode on like productivity myths, but that’s not the point of this episode. But people need this now. You need this now. And so that is what I’m doing.
