How to Make Time With God When Your Schedule Is Already Full
Do you want to spend more time with God but have no idea where it would actually fit in your day?
In this episode, I’m going through three types of time you can give to God, with real examples under each one, so you can find the version that fits the season you’re actually in.

I Thought I Was Doing Fine (Until I Wasn’t)
This was something I thought I was good at… but apparently I wasn’t as good as I thought. 😅
I’ve always been big on my faith. I prayed in the mornings. I prayed before bed. A few years ago I added devotionals to the mix, and I felt even better about myself, because clearly I had this handled, right?
Well… not necessarily.
We hit a season as a family where things got really hard, and it became pretty obvious that we weren’t as close to God as we thought we were. I was praying. I was reading my devotional. And I was still very confused as to why I felt disconnected from God and from the people that I love the most.
So yeah. I was feeling guilty, ashamed, and confused.
God Isn’t Keeping Score
I know some of you might be feeling the same. I feel like I’m good, but I also feel like God wants me to spend more time with Him… and I just don’t know how. And maybe He’s mad at me.
Here’s what Psalm 145:8 says:
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.
God isn’t standing there keeping score of how far behind we got. He is not shaming us. He is ready for us whenever we are.
He is gracious. He is compassionate. He understands that our lives are full. But He does want us to go to Him anyway.
And honestly, we’re not alone in this. Since coming out of that season, we’ve been encouraging friends and family to spend more time with Him too, and the questions keep coming in. How do I pray? How do I know He’s listening? I feel like He might be mad at me, it’s been a while.
It’s an honest thought a lot of us have when we feel like we’ve backed up from God and don’t know how to come back to Him… especially when our schedule is already so full.
These moments of realization can be hard to accept, but it’s what gets us closer to Him. So if you’re sitting in that guilt right now… don’t stay there. What you do after the realization is what matters.
And part of that is figuring out how to make time with God in a way that actually fits your life right now.

Before You Try Any of This, Keep Three Things in Mind
This isn’t about adding something else for you to feel bad about. It’s about finding the version of time with God that actually fits your life right now.
So here are three types of time you can make time with God in, starting with the easiest one.
1. Not everything here is going to work for you, and that’s kind of the point.
I’m giving you a little buffet. Pick and choose what’s going to work for you. What works for me in this season might not work for you. And what works for you in this season might not work in the next.
2. Five minutes fully present with God is better than 30 minutes with Him distracted.
It’s not about hitting a specific number or a certain minute count. It’s about your heart posture and being fully present in the time that you do give Him.
3. I’m not going to tell you to give up sleep or rest.
Rest is part of how God wants us to spend our time. So running yourself into the ground to prove yourself to Him? That’s not obedience. We’re not doing that either.

Three Ways to Make Time With God in a Day That’s Already Full
Life isn’t going to slow down. Yours, mine, none of ours. But you probably already have more time than you think. You’re just not using it because you feel busy.
So here are three types of time you can give to God, starting with the easiest one.
1. Time You Find
These are the moments in your day when your hands are already full… but you’re able to consume information, or mentally do something else.
We’re not adding a new block to your day. You’re adding a little something into a block you’re already using for something else.
Here’s what that can look like:
- Washing dishes or folding laundry → put on an audio Bible or a Bible study podcast
- Sitting in the pickup line or the drive-through → listen to a faith-based podcast episode
- Waiting rooms and appointments → same thing, or pull up an app and read some verses
- Ten minutes before a call, five minutes before you record → say a quick prayer
- Going for a walk or a workout → put on a Christian playlist instead of your usual music
- Your lunch break → read a devotional, or pull out a faith-based coloring book if you need to decompress
I say a prayer before I record every episode. God, please help me. Please speak through me. Please help me share the message that you want me to share.
That’s one minute. One minute of intentional time with Him.
The whole idea here → you’re making time with God inside a block that’s already spoken for, but it’s not so mentally demanding that you can’t add something alongside it.
2. Time You Swap
This one asks a little bit more of you. You’re not layering something on top. You’re trading it out.
Something you would normally do is going to get replaced. And honestly? A lot of what you’d swap out is stuff you do on autopilot anyway, or stuff that could wait until tomorrow.
Here’s what that looks like:
- Opening Instagram or TikTok → open up a Bible app instead
- Your usual playlist → Christian music
- Picking up the toys in the living room → leave them, and read a devotional for those five minutes
- The show you put on at night to decompress → a Bible study on YouTube, or a devotional
- Your usual true crime podcast → a faith-based one
- Scrolling in bed before you fall asleep → read a verse and say a short prayer
- That extra half hour of work you squeeze in after dinner → give it to Him instead
Remember what you’re doing here. You’re saying spending time with God is more important than XYZ. Even if XYZ is a chore or another task on your to-do list.
I know this one is harder. Swapping something out always is. But the more you do it, the easier it gets… because you start to understand how much He wants us to trust Him, and how the other things tend to get taken care of anyway.
One note on social media: you can also tweak your algorithm to bring in more faith-based accounts, so you’re getting encouragement in your feed and not just entertainment. Just use discernment with anything you consume, because not everything posted is accurate, and someone’s interpretation might not be the message God has for you.
3. Time You Carve
This is the biggest lift… and it’s where everyone typically starts. You’re creating a slot that didn’t exist before, which means you’re still giving something up.
Your day isn’t getting any longer. You’ve still got the same 24 hours. So if this is where you started and it didn’t work → you started with the hardest option. That might be the whole reason it fell apart.
Here’s what carving out time can look like:
- Wake up a little earlier → not 5 AM early, just a little. I wake up 30 minutes before my kids, and that’s enough for my routine, my affirmations, and a prayer
- Close out your day with Him → instead of turning on the TV, just make sure you’re still getting enough rest
- Habit stack it → attach it to something you already do without thinking, so the habit that’s already there does the remembering for you
- Get into a community → a church, a small group, or an online space like my free Real Life Productivity Lounge, where faith meets business for solopreneurs like you
With all of these, just make sure you’re getting plenty of rest, you’re being intentional with that time, and you’re fully present with Him.
Because five intentional minutes with Him beats the ones where you’re distracted. He knows your heart. He knows where your mind is truly at.

Pick One Way to Make Time With God This Week
Here’s what I don’t want you to do: don’t try all three. Pick one. One example, from one bucket, and let that be enough this week. Because if you try to do it all at once, you’ll drop it by Thursday and have one more thing to feel guilty about. And that is not what this was about at all.
It’s not about how long you spend with Him, or how impressive your routine looks. It’s about actually being present with Him when you’re with Him.
And the best part? He’s not keeping score. He is waiting.
So come tell me which of the three resonated with you. The Real Life Productivity Lounge is my free community where I answer questions directly, so bring me your how would this actually work in my week.
And if you’re realizing you aren’t as close to Him as you thought, Faith-Led Momentum is on the premium side. The first challenge is the Recommitment Challenge, and it’ll be there whenever you join.
Now go have some amazing, intentional time with God.
